2025 has not been an easy year for Power-to-X. Many projects slowed down, costs were higher than expected and policy signals unclear. However, the conversation around PtX has become more realistic. Quick wins were rare, but that’s simply part of the process. More than that, it requires trust in technology and skills, as well as commitment from producers and off-takers.
Looking back also reminds us where we started. The PtX Hub was founded six years ago at COP25, when Svenja Schulze, Germany’s Environment Minister at the time, announced the establishment of an international PtX secretariat. The aim was simple: to help countries and partners navigate PtX by providing clear guidance, practical tools, and open dialogue. This mission remains at the heart of everything we do.
Even in challenging times, we are reminded of the importance of our work. Our partners have continued to request training, practical tools, and advice on new regulations, particularly regarding certification.
Looking ahead to 2026
Next year, we plan to continue with our core activities of training and providing policy guidance, placing an even stronger focus on aviation and shipping.
Our first focus of the year will be on Green Shipping Corridors and green ports. These initiatives provide an opportunity to bring together key stakeholders, such as shipping and logistics companies, port operators, local authorities and fuel producers. They will be able to share the costs of being first movers.
Looking ahead, we are optimistic that these practical steps will enable our partners to make significant progress in 2026.
We wish you a restful end to 2025.
