Geographic limitations and high development costs have so far limited the global expansion of geothermal energy. Energy losses during long distance transport restricted economic utilisation and led to a predominantly regional usage. Our study shows how this could change with PtX: Since hydrogen and PtX products such as green ammonia can be transported, PtX could make geothermal energy a commodity.

In February 2023, the European Commission published the two Delegated Acts pursuant to Article 27 and Article 28 of the Renewable Energy Directive (REDII). These set out the requirements for renewable hydrogen and other Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin consumed in the EU which apply to all RFNBOs, produced within or outside the EU. Jointly with Öko-Institut, adelphi and the Ecologic Institute, we analysed the contents of the two Delegated Acts in detail.

Demand for green hydrogen is triggered by both regulatory incentives and voluntary ambitions of private companies. Only sound certification can provide assurance to investors, customers, and regulators that PtX solutions adhere to certain standards and requirements (e.g., in terms of sustainability). The International PtX Hub together with Öko-Institut developed a briefing that explains certification for green hydrogen and PtX.

As one of the world's most important food producers and exporters, fertilisers and green ammonia are key to Argentina's energy transition. With Power-to-X, Argentina can use its high renewable energy potential to produce green ammonia from green hydrogen.

The policy brief by Agora Industry, Agora Energy Transition and Fundación Torcuato di Tella for the PtX Hub highlights the opportunities for Argentina.

Jordan is continuously pushing towards its goal of building a green economy and embracing new and innovative technologies to achieve its sustainability goals. Green hydrogen and renewable Power-to-X have the potential to play a crucial role in realising this vision – providing a sustainable energy solution which supports the country's transition to a carbon-neutral economy. To support this, the PtX Hub has partnered up with the German-Jordanian University and the Al Hussein University and is developing university courses on Power-to-X for technicians, engineers and academic staff.
